The past few days in Aveiro unfolded gently between Negronis, new lyrics, and empty streets. Somehow, I found time to write – mostly with a drink in hand at yeah!, where the lights were warm and the music quiet enough to think between the lines.
I played two shows – both in beautiful little venues. And while the rain kept most people indoors (honestly, I wouldn’t have stepped outside either), I had some meaningful conversations that stuck with me.
In moments like these, I always think of the bar owners too. I used to work in gastronomy – I know what high staff costs and empty chairs mean. Sure, the fees here aren’t exactly sky-high, but we’re all in the same boat. And everything’s more fun when there’s a little life in the room.
Still, I give it my best, play a few laid-back sets at yeah!, and the people who are there seem to really enjoy it. After the show, I fall into a long conversation with Victor, the guy behind the bar. We talk about Portuguese writers, music, and life. At some point, he tells me the concert really inspired him. That he can feel the journey in my music – the experience, the road.
He says: “You’re on the right path.”
That’s good to hear. Because this road is beautiful, but sometimes it feels like the bloody path of God.
The people here were all incredibly kind and welcoming – I don’t think this will be my last time in Aveiro.
Now I’m heading to Porto. Let’s see what waits for me there.
