This city is bigger than I thought.
After intense days in Lisbon, I took a short break and followed the west coast down to Sagres – a place that reminds me of my time in Ecuador. Raw, honest, untamed. There’s still hope here. It hasn’t been polished or gentrified beyond recognition. Just wind, waves, and a sunset so beautiful from the cliffs near the fortress that you might briefly consider throwing yourself off – purely out of wonder, of course.
I wish I could stay longer.
But the road calls, and so I continue to Luz, then Lagos – and finally my little vacation ends in Faro. I play a short set by the marina. The temperatures are climbing. It’s still pleasant by the coast, but I’m curious how the heat will treat me in my black VW bus once I head inland.
Even Faro feels a bit too big for me. Too crowded. Too touristy. So after work, I move on – toward Olhão.
My tips:
• Make a stop in Porto Covo – for coffee with a view of the wild coast.
• Stay 2–3 days in Vila Nova de Milfontes – and have 3–5 Medronho at the beach bar.
• Spend some time in Sagres – and forget the everyday grind.
